Manufacturing of Smart Phones on large scale started in Pakistan Last Year, which also lead to exports of these mobile phones to other countries.
Report
A report by Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) says that Pakistan manufactured more than 14 million mobile phones in the first half of 2022. This was radically higher than the number of cell phones imported during the same period, which was 1.14 million.
PTA says that the compelling execution of the Device Identification Registration and Blocking System (DIRBS) alongside good government laws have helped local smartphone manufacturing in Pakistan.
Out of 14 million, 8.06 million were 2G handsets and the rest were all smartphones. As per PTA, 54% of the Pakistani mobile phone market comprises smartphones, and imports have flooded by 3.52%. The number went from $2.593 billion in July-June 2020-21 to $2.684 billion during a similar period last year.
Local assembling plants delivered 1.67 million cell phones in June 2022 alone. These industries delivered more than 24 million phones last year, which was an amazing 88% increment (13 million) over 2020. Cell phone imports expanded by 10 million in 2021, which was up from 24.5 million in 2020.
In the future, Pakistan is expected to manufacture more smartphones. Let’s see where this number jumps at the end of 2022.
